Our 5th and 6th grade students had an outstanding participation in an English Spelling Bee organized by Saint Dominic’s School, which took place last Thursday, a contest in which the children participate by executing a quick spelling of words selected according to the level of the category in competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matilda Reyes (5th grade B) won second place in the 5th grade category and Pablo Elgueta (6th grade B) won first place in the 6th grade category. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pedagogical importance of participating in this type of contest lies, first of all, in the fact that through the use of the language, students expand their vocabulary while focusing their attention on spelling and the correct pronunciation of the words studied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secondly, the student is tested in front of his or her peers in the handling of a foreign language, undergoing the pressure of recognizing the concept, knowing its meaning, knowing how to write it and spell it against time without making a mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, the contestant must deal with frustration tolerance, trust in his or her abilities, have a team spirit, practice public speaking, be under pressure and be empathetic with his or her peers and the rest of the participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In qualitative terms, from the preparation to the day of the contest, the students reinforce the values of empathy by not laughing at their classmates who make mistakes, respect, fair competition, solidarity and identity, as seen in what it meant for each child to represent his or her school in the contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Destacada participaci\u00f3n del colegio en concurso Spelling Bee<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Una destacada participaci\u00f3n tuvieron nuestros alumnos de 5\u00aa y 6\u00aa b\u00e1sico en un concurso de deletreo en Ingl\u00e9s denominado Spelling Bee organizado por el Colegio Saint Dominic que se desarroll\u00f3 el jueves pasado, certamen en que los ni\u00f1os participan ejecutando un r\u00e1pido deletreo de palabras seleccionadas de acuerdo al nivel de la categor\u00eda en competencia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En categor\u00eda 5to B\u00e1sico obtuvo el segundo lugar la alumna Matilda Reyes (5to B) y en categor\u00eda 6to B\u00e1sico obtuvo el primer lugar el alumno Pablo Elgueta (6to B). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

La importancia pedag\u00f3gica que tiene el participar en este tipo de certamen radica, en primer lugar, que desde el manejo de la lengua los estudiantes ampl\u00edan su vocabulario a la vez que focalizan su atenci\u00f3n en ortograf\u00eda y la correcta pronunciaci\u00f3n de las palabras estudiadas. En segundo lugar, que el o la alumna se prueba frente a sus pares en el manejo de una lengua extranjera, someti\u00e9ndose a la presi\u00f3n que implica reconocer el concepto, saber su significado, saber escribirlo y deletrearlo contra el tiempo sin cometer un error. Finalmente, el o la concursante debe lidiar con la tolerancia a la frustraci\u00f3n, confiar en sus capacidades, tener un esp\u00edritu de equipo, practicar el hablar en p\u00fablico, estar bajo presi\u00f3n y ser emp\u00e1tico con sus compa\u00f1eros y el resto de los participantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En t\u00e9rminos cualitativos, desde la preparaci\u00f3n hasta el d\u00eda del concurso, los estudiantes refuerzan los valores de la empat\u00eda, el respeto, la competencia limpia, la solidaridad y la identidad, observada en lo que signific\u00f3 para cada ni\u00f1o representar a su colegio en el certamen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cynthia Vera, coordinadora del Departamento de Ingl\u00e9s, agradeci\u00f3 el esfuerzo y preparaci\u00f3n de todos los alumnos que participaron de la competencia, ya que hicieron un excelente trabajo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
