On the morning of 8th November, the Chilean North American Institute of Culture in Valparaíso hosted the semi-final of the First Inter-School Spelling Bee, an event held simultaneously across the Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, and Quilpué campuses.
This initiative was organised by the Chilean North American Institute of Culture in Valparaíso in collaboration with Librería Inglesa and Editorial Maquila. Year 8 students from various schools in the region were invited to compete in a series of pronunciation and spelling challenges in English, testing themselves across three levels of difficulty.
The aim of this activity is to strengthen students’ English language skills, emphasising the importance of spelling and word comprehension. Additionally, this exercise evaluated participants’ listening abilities, an essential skill for learning a second language.
We thank the teachers for their commitment and support in preparing students for this challenge. Our congratulations go to all the semi-finalists, especially to the representatives from each campus who advanced to the grand final, scheduled for 22nd November in Valparaíso.
