Teaching English is an important axis of our school’s educational project. Today our curriculum contemplates 10 hours of teaching and learning English in the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten levels, which is the ideal scenario for our children to acquire English as a second language in an innate and natural way.
To teach the language at this age it is essential to establish clear routines for several reasons:
1.- Repetition is key: By being exposed to words and phrases on a constant basis, toddlers internalize vocabulary naturally, without the need to translate.
2.- Safety and confidence: Routines provide a safe and predictable environment for toddlers, which gives them the confidence to explore and learn with their peers.
3.- Development of cognitive skills: Establishing routines at this early stage contributes to the development of logical thinking, memory and concentration. It favors memory and the ability to retain and store vocabulary.
The teachers in the English department have established a time for prayer, then identify the weather conditions of the day, what day of the week it is, how the children are doing, and then continue the lessons based on songs and games. Using resources such as puppets, instruments and dynamics help the children to incorporate the content prepared for each session much more quickly.
